In preparation for this international day, an awareness-raising webinar was held on Tuesday on the gender impacts of innovation and technology, with female entrepreneurs and experts present. The starting point, highlights a footnote, is the fact that women constitute still only 28.8% of the workforce in the technology sector, according to the findings of a 2020 study by the organization Women Who Tech.
Furthermore, according to a recent survey of the United Nations Development Organization (UNIDO), only one in four women in business uses digital technologies in the project planning phases, production and sale of their product or activity.
"It is important to understand how to create an innovation ecosystem that aims to transform the gender gap and to understand how to promote women's careers in sciences, technology, engineering and mathematics", said John Paul Grech, the Deputy Secretary General for Social and Civil Affairs at UfM.
Yesterday's event was also useful to launch the next Women Business Forum 2023 of UfM-UNIDO on women in industry and innovation that will be held on 6-7 June 2023 in Tunisia.
