(ANSA) - ROME, SEP 30 - The second day of the Ryder Cup in
Rome ended 10.5-5.5 for Europe, needing four points to regain
the trophy, after a clutch US win in the last fourball.
Patrick Cantlay holed a long putt at the last to get the win for
him and Wyndham Clark over Rory McIlroy and Matt Fitzpatrick,
who had been one up for most of the round.
With 12 singles on Sunday, Europe need to get to 14.5 points to
retake the trophy they last won five years ago in Paris, while
the US need to climb 8,5 points to get to the 14 required to
retain the trophy they won with a 19-9 thrashing at Whistling
Straits two year ago.
Earlier in the day Viktor Hovland and Ludvig Aberg recorded a
record 9&7 victory over Scottie Scheffler and Brooks Koepka,
leaving 2022 Masters champ Scheffler in tears. (ANSA).
