(ANSA) - ROME, OCT 1 - Sports Minister Andrea Abodi told Rai
TV that he hoped the winning Ryder Cup in Rome, Italy's first
edition of the event, would be a boost for the fame in the Bel
Paese of tomorrow.
Italy still has relatively few golfers, and relatively few
courses, in a country where the game is played by a wealthier
elite.
"We are proud and happy of what has been done, but we are even
more motivated for what must happen from tomorrow: we mustn't
squander this great occasion, these emotions we are living,
because golf in Italy too must be able to make the quality leap
that it deserves.
"This is the spirit with which we are here today."
Abodi stressed that "this discipline must overcome the
prejudices (of those that see it as an elite sport), becoming a
game for all". (ANSA).
