The Group of Seven led by duty president Giorgia Meloni on Italy on Saturday said it would back Ukraine as long as it takes in the war against the Russian invasion.
In a statement marking the 1,000th day since Moscow invaded its neighbour, the G7 said: "We, the leaders of the Group of Seven (G7), reaffirm our firm support for Ukraine for as long as it takes. We remain in solidarity in contributing to its struggle for sovereignty, freedom, independence, territorial integrity and its reconstruction. We also recognize the impact of Russia's aggression on vulnerable people around the world." The group also said Moscow was the only obstacles to peace and it would press ahead with sanctions on Russia.
"After 1,000 days of war, we recognize the immense suffering endured by the Ukrainian people.
"Despite these hardships, Ukrainians have demonstrated unparalleled resilience and determination to defend their land, their culture and their people.
"Russia remains the sole obstacle to a just and lasting peace.
"The G7 remains committed to imposing severe costs on Russia through sanctions, export controls and other effective measures.
