Yehia Elgaml, the father of
19-year-old Ramy who died on November 24 while being chased by
Carabinieri police in Milan, called for peaceful demonstrations
in memory of his son on Sunday, a day after protests in Rome and
Bologna against his death turned violent.
"When there are people who stage demonstrations to demand
justice and truth for my son, they must not cause disruption or
do bad things", he said.
"Please, stage calm, peaceful demonstrations", urged Elgaml,
commenting clashes between protesters and police officers in
Rome and Bologna, where the local synagogue was also vandalized.
Elgaml also expressed "confidence" in the Italian Republic and
in President Sergio Mattarella.
"We live under his umbrella", he said of the head of State, "not
only Italians, but also immigrants and foreigners".
