An Italian lawyer said Tuesday a
probe opened against Premier Giorgia Meloni and other officials
over the release and flight back to Libya of an alleged war
criminal had been a "due act" after he filed a complaint to
police.
"I filed a complaint, hypothesizing crimes (of aiding and
abetting and embezzlement of public funds) and now as a
necessary act, it is certainly not an anomalous fact, the Rome
Prosecutor's Office has entered the Prime Minister and the
ministers in the register," said lawyer Luigi Li Gotti who on 23
January sent a complaint to the Rome Prosecutor's Office on the
case of the liberation of Libyan general Osama Almasri.
"Now the Prosecutor's Office will have to make its assessments
and decide how to proceed, whether to identify other cases or
send everything to the Court of Ministers.
"I limited myself to filing a complaint".
