A informer of the so-called
'bomb-laying Ndrangheta', a ferocious part of the Calabrian
mafia, Nunziatino Romeo, linked to the Barbaro-Papalia family,
was arrested Monday in part of the investigation into the
Equalize case and its alleged cyber-spies.
The part of the investigation, conducted by the Carabinieri ROS,
focuses on the accusation of attempted extortion with the
aggravating circumstance of mafia.
About ten searches were also carried out.
Carmine Gallo, a former top police officer who was under house
arrest in relation to a probe into the
alleged snooping ring, died of a heart attack at the age of 66
at his home in the province of Milan on March 9.
Gallo was among the alleged ringleaders of a gang that got
confidential information from national databases on business,
political and showbusiness figures, along with ex-Milan Fair
Foundation president Enrico Pazzali.
The snooping was allegedly done via Pazzali's Equalize agency.
