The Paris summit on Ukraine discussed
a possible ceasefire and the role of the United Nations, Premier
Giorgia Meloni's office at Palazzo Chigi said after she attended
the gathering of the coalition of the willing hosted by French
President Emmanuel Macron Thursday.
During the meeting, the Leaders also discussed the importance of
effective implementation and monitoring of the ceasefire, on
which a possible role for the United Nations is being explored,
in line with the position of the Italian Government, the note
released by Palazzo Chigi said at the end of the French summit.
The Prime Minister also indicated how it is now important to be
able to extend the partial ceasefire to civilian infrastructure,
such as schools and hospitals, with the aim of achieving a total
ceasefire.
Reiterating that no national participation is foreseen in a
possible military force on the ground, President Meloni
underlined the importance of continuing to work with the United
States to stop the conflict and achieve a peace that ensures the
sovereignty and security of Ukraine, hoping for the involvement
of an American delegation at the next coordination meeting.
