Carabinieri police have arrested a man
suspected of stabbing a female university student to death in
broad daylight in a Messina street on Monday before numerous
witnesses, sources said on Tuesday.
The victim was named as Sara Campanella, a 22-year-old from
Palermo who was a student at the Messina university nursing
sciences faculty.
The sources said the suspect was a university companion of
Campanella's.
She was killed by a single stab wound to the jugular.
Witnesses said she had been arguing with a young man before she
was murdered.
Italy has experienced a long series of shocking femicides and
episodes of gender-based violence.
