After causing a storm by saying the
Italian auto sector needs new incentives to make car production
profitable in Italy, Stellantis CEO Carlos Tavares reiterated
his call for countries to support the transition towards
electric vehicles on Tuesday, saying France was a model to
follow.
He said that electric cars cost too much despite manufacturers'
efforts to reduce prices, adding that "in this moment of
transition, without incentives, the price is still too high.
"Public support, as was successfully done this year in France
thanks to the ecological bonus and electric leasing, is now more
necessary than ever," he continued.
"We are proud to be at the forefront of this initiative, which
has contributed enormously to the democratisation of electric
mobility throughout France. We hope that others will adopt
programmes like these".
