Justice Minister Carlo Nordio said on Wednesday that the government is investing significantly to boost security against cyber attacks during question time at the Lower House, amid a major probe into illegal hacking and snooping on personal police and interior ministry files which is believed to involve more than 800,000 victims.
"We are investing a series of very important sums to implement security against cyberattacks, aware that the whole world was unprepared to confront hacking attacks, because criminals in almost all sectors always act and intervene before the State can arm itself with the necessary and sufficient legislation to control them", he said.
"Then the time will come, and for us that time is very close, when we will be able to totally control them", said the minister, adding that "it's a problem we are now trying to resolve".
Nordio also told the House on Wednesday that, in order "to boost the public administration's cyber services and systems, the Agency for national cybersecurity has ordered funding of over 715 million euros" .
The resources concerned "the budget from 2022 to 2024 and will also interest the subsequent 2025-2026 budgets, NRRP funding for a total of 376 million euros and funding from the national cyber strategy for 339 million" , explained the minister.
