The former CEO of Italian rail
network company RFI, Maurizio Gentile, was acquitted of
manslaughter and grievous negligence charges Tuesday in the
January 25, 2018 rail disaster that killed three women and left
over 200 injured at Pioltello near Milan.
The accident happened when a regional train travelling from
Cremona to Milan derailed, allegedly after poor track
maintenance work.
In all, eight people were acquitted in the first-instance trial.
Only one man was convicted, former RFI Brescia unit chief Marco
Albanesi, who was sentenced to five years and three months.
The RFI company was acquitted too.
