Italy's tourism sector set a new
record last year, registering 134 million arrivals and 451
overnight stays at accommodation establishments, according to
estimates released on Tuesday by a working group formed by the
tourism ministry and statistics agency Istat.
The report said these levels were comfortably above the
pre-pandemic ones of 2019, with three million more arrivals, an
increase of 2.3%, and 14.5 million more overnight stays, up
3.3%.
Arrivals and overnight stays in 2023 are estimated to have been
up by 13.4% and 9.5% respectively on 2022.
The report said foreign tourists accounted for 52.4% of the
overnight stays.
