The Italian Ambassador to Croatia, Paolo Trichilo, today took part in the celebration of the Day of the Anti-Fascist Struggle, held in the memorial park in Brezovica, near Sisak, an event that was attended by the President of the Republic, Zoran Milanovic, and Foreign Minister Gordan Grlic Radman. Every 22 June, Croatia commemorates the date on which the first partisan battalion and the first anti-fascist nucleus in the country were founded in 1943.
After a meeting with the director of the museum in Sisak, whose name derives from the Roman colony of Siscia after Octavian conquered Illyrian Segestica in 35 B.C., the ambassador visited the community of Italians in Kutina in Moslavina, named after Dante, made up of the descendants of emigrants from the Belluno area in the second half of the 19th century, who keep alive the ties with their region of origin and carry out numerous cultural activities within the framework of the Italian Union.
Trichilo then travelled to Lipovljani, visiting one of Florian S.p.A.'s eight factories in Croatia, where he was received by owner Elvio Florian. The group, based in Riese Pio X in the province of Treviso, has been active in the Croatian market for over 50 years, where it has rescued and relaunched bankrupt companies in the timber sector; the last two acquisitions date back to 2022. More than 90 per cent of the staves for windows, solid panels and thermally treated finished floors end up on the Italian, French, British and other European markets. The company also has plants in France, the Czech Republic and Hungary.
