Strengthening collaboration between Italy and Japan in the field of robotics for healthcare through greater involvement of companies in the sector, researchers and professors from universities and research institutes of the two countries. This was the theme of the 'Italy-Japan Joint International Symposium on Robotics for Humanity and Healthcare', organised by the Italian Consulate in Osaka, in collaboration with the Politecnico di Torino and Kansai Medical University.
In his speech, the Ambassador of Italy in Japan, Gianluigi Benedetti, praised the examples of scientific cooperation between the two countries, protagonists of the symposium: "in recent years, Italy and Japan have established solid alliances, moving forward the frontiers of knowledge and pushing the boundaries of what is possible in the field of robotics. In this regard, the Ambassador mentioned the fruitful cooperation between the University of Tokyo and the Italian Institute of Technology (IIT) on humanoid robotics; the cooperation between the University of Osaka and the University of Pisa on robotics applied to surgery; finally, the joint research between the Japanese Riken and the Scuola Superiore Sant'Anna, focused on imitating and replicating the efficiency of biological systems.
Speaking in a video message, the Rector of the Politecnico di Torino, Stefano Paolo Corgnati, recalled the opening in July 2023 of the Politecnico di Torino's first hub abroad, Polito Japan in Kyoto, created with the aim of strengthening the network with Japanese universities working on challenges common to Italian universities, in close synergy with local businesses. The Vice Rector of the Politecnico di Torino, Alberto Sapora, highlighted the similarities between the two countries, which share common challenges, particularly those related to the aging society and industrial production management. Closing the event, the Consul General of Italy in Osaka, Marco Prencipe, emphasised that today's symposium is a concrete example of the excellent scientific cooperation between two universities of excellence, the Politecnico di Torino and Kansai Medical University. "Italy and Japan are pioneering innovations in response to the most urgent global challenges," added Prencipe, announcing the next scientific events that the Consulate will organise on the topics of regenerative medicine, smart food, biomaterials for diagnostics, in collaboration with Italian and Japanese universities, in view of Expo Osaka 2025.
