Tonight's screening at the UNESCO Palace in Paris of the docu-film Wartime Notes by Italian director Barbara Cupisti, produced by Clipper Media with Rai Cinema. The work, which was already presented last April at the Italian Cultural Institute in Paris and is being shown again today to delegates from the 194 member states of the International Organisation, retraces the daily lives of Ukrainian men and women who, faced with the sudden and tragic upheaval of their lives due to Russian aggression, devise ways and experiences of resistance and survival.
Before the documentary film, which will be screened in the prestigious Auditorium of the UNESCO headquarters, the Permanent Representative of Italy to UNESCO, Ambassador Liborio Stellino, and the Permanent Representative of Poland to UNESCO, Ambassador Mariusz Lewicki, will take the floor. The latter will speak on behalf of the "Group of friends of Ukraine", which has been set up within the organisation and supports the Italian initiative. This will be followed by speeches by the President of Rai Cinema, Nicola Claudio, and the director, Barbara Cupisti. Clipper Media producers Sandro Bartolozzi and Barbara Meleleo will also be present.
The film enjoyed a long succession of successes before being screened at UNESCO: presented at the 52nd Molodist Kyiv Film Festival, at the 9th International Documentary Festival Visioni dal Mondo in Milan, at the 44th edition of the Festival del Cinema e Donne in Florence, Wartime Notes won the prize for best foreign film at the Bir Duino Film Festival in Kyrgyzstan, as well as participating in the EU-Asia Documentary Fest (EU-Asia Docs) in Hong Kong. It then made the rounds of several diplomatic venues, Italian and otherwise: first in Vienna by the Permanent Representation of Italy to the OSCE, in collaboration with the Italian Cultural Institute in Vienna and then in virtual screening by the US Embassy in Kyrgyzstan, the European Union and the UK during the week of 18 to 24 February 2024.
On the eve of the 220th session of UNESCO's Executive Council, scheduled to take place on 9 October, the screening of Wartime Notes is yet another important opportunity to continue to bear witness to the importance of international solidarity with the Ukrainian people.
