The Ambassador of Italy in Kiev, Carlo Formosa, met the Minister of Youth and Sports of Ukraine, Matvii Bidnyi, to discuss the strengthening of sports cooperation between Italy and Ukraine.
During the meeting, it was highlighted that sport is not only an important pillar of bilateral relations, but also a strong symbol of solidarity between the two countries. Since 2022, Italy has guaranteed assistance to around 500 Ukrainian athletes, offering them safe facilities and advanced training programmes, enabling them to prepare for international competitions, despite the difficulties linked to the war.
"This sports collaboration is a tangible example of the closeness between our countries and our commitment to support Ukrainian athletes, who continue to pursue their dreams in an extremely complex context," said Ambassador Formosa.
Among the topics discussed, the willingness to promote more structured and continuous cooperation between the two countries emerged, thus strengthening exchanges in the sports sector. There was also discussion of enhancing cooperation between NADO Italy and the Ukrainian National Anti-Doping Centre, with the aim of developing joint programmes and sharing good practices. Finally, the topic of the Ukrainian Recovery Conference, which will be held in Italy next year, was touched upon, as well as the importance of promoting the culture of sport and the dimension of youth opportunities as tools of resilience and reconstruction for Ukraine.
