The Italian Ambassador to Australia, Paolo Crudele, chaired the annual consular meeting and the country system meeting in Canberra over the past two days. Platforms for debate between the main consular and association representatives of the Italian community, the two meetings made it possible to collect proposals, good practices, and critical issues encountered in the sectors of reference, reads a note. They were attended by all the Italian consuls serving in the country (Adelaide, Brisbane, Melbourne, Perth and Sydney), the delegates of the Com.It.Es of Australia, the representative of the General Council of Italians Abroad (Cgie) Franco Papandrea, the organisations running Italian language courses, the Ice Agency and the Chambers of Commerce operating in Australia. The two Italian MPs elected in the foreign constituency, Senator Francesco Giacobbe and Hon. Nicola Carè, were also present.
The consular session revealed new opportunities arising from the strengthening of services and the efficiency of structures in the current year. Examples include: investments in communication and digitalisation, the extension to the entire network of services to citizens (such as the Electronic Identity Card, Cie), and the development of synergies in the development of an adequate cultural offer for the benefit of the Italian and local communities.
The country system meeting offered the opportunity to review challenges, priorities, and strategies useful for coordinating integrated promotion activities, also thanks to the contribution of the managing bodies, Chambers of Commerce, and the Ice Agency. The importance of continuing to enhance the teaching of the Italian language and strengthening economic relations with Australia in crucial sectors was recalled: from the space economy to the mining sector; from infrastructure to renewable energy. The historic passage of the Amerigo Vespucci School Ship and the Italian Village in Darwin was recalled, in the presence of the Deputy Minister for Business and Italian Made in Italy Valentini, as an extraordinary opportunity for multilevel promotion of Italian products.
"There is a great demand for Italy in this country, which it is our task to intercept and satisfy through a diversified and adequate offer of services, also thanks to a constant coordination activity of the consular network," said Ambassador Crudele. 'We also wish to promote the dynamism of our productive fabric, consolidate resilient value chains, and increase bilateral cooperation in strategic sectors'.
