The Italian Embassy in Yangon organised, as part of the Euro-Myanmar Food Fusion Week promoted by the European Union in Myanmar, a week of events and initiatives animated by Chef Massimiliano Scotti.
Originally from Milan, Scotti is an ice cream chef who, after abandoning a promising career in advertising, decided to devote himself to his greatest passion: making ice cream. So in less than five years he has entered the Olympus of this sweet art, winning 3 Gambero Rosso cones, the highest accolade to which a master ice-cream maker can aspire. Scotti animated the week of initiatives, from training courses on Italian gelato for professional chefs and young people from disadvantaged communities, with the prospect of providing job opportunities. But there were also gala and charity dinners organised with leading Burmese chefs, an exchange around typical Made in Italy and Myanmar products. The first Italian Gelato competition held in Myanmar was also organised.
"I would like to thank Massimiliano Scotti wholeheartedly for his availability, generosity and enthusiasm with which he undertook this journey of meetings and exchanges with the people of Myanmar," commented Head of Mission Nicolò Tassoni Estense, adding that "our initiative, organised jointly with the European Delegation, made Italian gelato an 'Ambassador' of peace, friendship and closeness to the Burmese people.
