Premier Giorgia Meloni will be in
Aqaba at midday on Friday for a meeting with King Abdullah II of
Jordan, her agenda said on Wednesday.
The premier will then have a meeting with Lebanese Prime
Minister Najib Mikati in Beirut at 16.30, the agenda said.
Meloni had announced on Tuesday that she would travel to Lebanon
while Foreign Minister Antonio Tajani will go to Israel and
Palestine next week as Italy seeks to help international efforts
to de-escalate the Middle East crisis.
She expressed "concern for the ongoing escalation in Lebanon,
because I am seriously worried about the way in which the
scenario is evolving, despite the numerous efforts (made by) us
and our allies" when she addressed the Senate on Tuesday ahead
of this week's EU summit.
She blasted Israel's recent attacks on the UNIFIL peacekeeping
mission, which features a 1,000 strong Italian contingent, as
"totally unjustified and a clear violation of UN resolution
1701".
