Italy's European Commission Executive
Vice President-Designate Raffaele Fitto on Wednesday answered
MEPs' written questions in view of his confirmation hearings at
the European Parliament by saying that he would work in the EU
to respect the commitments of the massive post COVID National
Recovery and Resilience Plans (NRRP) by 2026.
"The best way to ensure that the Recovery Fund is used in the
most effective way is to help Member States fully respect their
commitments by 2026," said Fitto, a bigwig in Premier Giorgia
Meloni's rightwing Brothers of Italy (FdI) party who will have
the brief for territorial cohesion and the NRRP if he is
confirmed by the EP.
"This is our collective responsibility and a fundamental
challenge for the countries and the Commission.
"If confirmed, I will work to ensure that the countries respect
the agreed reforms and investments set out in the NRRP by the
2026 spending deadline", he underlined.
Fitto has been Italian minister for European Affairs, the South
and Cohesion in the Meloni government.
