Microsoft founder Bill Gates on
Thursday met Premier Giorgia Meloni at her office in Rome as
part of a round of talks Italy is having on Artificial
Intelligence having made AI one of the priorities of its current
Group of Seven presidency.
Also present at the encounter was the government's pointman on
AI, Gregorian University professor Father Paolo Benanti, who
told reporters afterwards that Gates had stressed the
"importance of AI being in the right hands."
He said the Microsoft founder had "underscored, as a
technologist, the great advantages in the optimisation of some
processes that may come but had also highlighted the risks,
stressing that the technology must be in the right hands".
Gates, he said, had said "different approaches are needed."
