Minister Gilberto Pichetto Fratin said on the sidelines of a
meeting in Turin on fourth-generation nuclear power that nuclear
reactors might be made at Mirafiori if the historic former FIAT
plant in Turin is reconverted from carmaking by its giant
successor Stellantis.
"If Newcleo (the startup that is investing in clean nuclear
power, ed.) goes ahead, it could be there (at Mirafiori), why
not?" said the minister.
"Estimates are around two billion for the construction of each
small fourth-generation nuclear reactor, with spin-offs in terms
of employment and professional qualifications. It really means a
step into the future," Pichetto explained.
"We are still in an experimental phase.
"We are working with the (Turin) university," added the
minister, who recalled the presence in Piedmont of Newcleo and
other energy companies like Ansaldo and Enea.
