Italy's tennis world number one
Jannik Sinner said Tuesday that he was pulling out of the Paris
Masters because of an intestinal virus.
"I'm sorry that I can't take the court," the 23-year-old
Australian and US Open champion said in a video message on his
Instagram profile.
"I came here early to prepare but I got a virus and I'm not
ready to compete.
"I'm really sorry".
In an interview with Sky Sport, he added that he was not worried
about missing next month's ATP Finals in Turin and the Davis
Cup finals in Malaga.
Sinner is sure to end the year as the world number one after
winning his seventh ATP tour title of the season at the Shanghai
Masters.
In June Sinner became the first Italian to be a singles tennis
number one since computerised rankings were introduced in 1973.
He has not relinquished the position since.
