World number one and defending champion Jannik Sinner crushed home favourite Alex de Minaur 6-3, 6-2, 6-1 at the Rod Laver Arena in Melbourne on Wednesday to cruise into the semi-finals of the Australian Open.
In the last four the 23-year-old Italian will face American Ben Shelton, the 21st seed, who beat Sinner's compatriot Lorenzo Sonego 6-4, 7-5, 4-6, 7-6 earlier on Wednesday.
It was an emphatic return after Sinner had to overcome a medical scare when he suffered a bad turn in his 6-3, 3-6, 6-3, 6-2 win over Denmark Holger Rune's on Monday.
"Today I felt everything," Sinner said after the match.
"It's easier on days like these when you get the break straight away.
"You were all here for him," he told the crowd. "But you were very sporting, the atmosphere was amazing.
"How do I feel after the problems in the last match? Yesterday was a very quiet day. I tried to rest and recover as much as possible and generally you do that very quickly, especially if you're young".
When asked about facing Shelton, Sinner said he was one of best servers in the sport.
"I hope to stay as focused as I did today," he said.
