Former AS Roma captain and coach
Daniele De Rossi said Saturday that he was in for the long haul
after becoming the owner of Ostia Mare, a minor league club in
the seaside Ostia district of the capital where he grew up.
The club, who De Rossi played for before being picked up by
Roma's academy, are in the semi-professional Serie D, the fourth
tier of Italian soccer.
"It will be a serious, long-term project," said De Rossi, a
member of Italy's 2006 World Cup-winning squad.
"Many clubs have won the championship and then taken off.
"We want to do something that will last over time. I want to
stay here for 30 years, I hope to see the fruit over the years.
"I would like to win some championships and imagine a match at
2.30pm with 300 people following us, even away from home".
