Pope Francis spent a "quiet night" in
Rome's Gemelli Hospital where he is being treated for a
respiratory tract infection amid a bout of bronchitis, Vatican
sources said Saturday.
"The Pope spent a quiet night, consistent with the
clinical picture for which he was admitted yesterday to the
Policlinico Gemelli in Rome," they said.
His high temperature has gone down, they added.
Francis arrived at the Gemelli Friday very out of breath due to
breathing difficulties linked to an
excess of phlegm, and a "home-made" treatment for bronchitis had
not given the expected results, the sources said.
There is, they said, optimism about the new therapy that began
Friday, after doctors found that the 87-year-old Argentine
pontiff is suffering from a respiratory tract infection.
