Premier Giorgia Meloni said after
talks in Beirut with Lebanese Prime Minister Najib Mikati Friday
that only by boosting UNIFIL will the international community be
able to "turn the page" after alleged Israeli attacks on the UN
peacekeepers.
"I consider it unacceptable to attack UNIFIL, both sides must
guarantee the safety of the soldiers," she said after several
incidents which Israel said were accidents caused by Hezbollah
allegedly using the UN troops as shields.
"I am convinced that UNIFIL must be strengthened. Only by
strengthening the mission will it be possible to turn the page.
We must return to the original mission of UNIFIL".
