Under the leadership of Commissioner
Christophe Hansen, European Committee on Agriculture and Food
began work this month.
The committee was launched by Commission President Ursula von
der Leyen to follow up on the Strategic Dialogue on the Future
of Agriculture, initiated in response to last year's farmer
protests that shook Europe.
From Slow Food to Greenpeace's EU unit, Copa-Cogeca and the
European Council of Young Farmers, the group's 30 members of the
group have expressed their commitment to bringing expertise from
across the agri-food supply chain —according to a spokesperson
for the European Commission.
After the Commissioner's opening remarks, participants shared
their expectations for the group's future work.
A roundtable discussion followed, focusing on key priorities for
the Vision for Agriculture and Food, which the European
Commission was set to present on February 19 to lay the
groundwork for the future CAP.
The discussion revolved around participants' priorities for
future communication, particularly on how to balance fair living
incomes for farmers with profitability across the agri-food
value chain.
A EU Commission spokesperson said that no date has been set for
the next meeting so far.
