Italian tennis great Adriano Panatta
said Saturday Jannik Sinner's three-month doping ban would mean
only a short break and the world number one would return in
competitive form in his bid to ass the French Open, Wimbledon
and the US Open to his Australian Open title and become the
first man since Rod Laver in 1969 to do the yearly Grand Slam.
"For Jannik it will be a short break, then he'll be competitive
again", said former French Open winner Panatta on Rainews 24
regarding Sinner's deal with the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA)
on his three-month suspension for the clostebol Indian Wells
doping case.
"It's the most practical choice, it avoids him missing the
entire season. He'll miss some tournaments, but he'll be able to
play the most important ones, Rome, Roland Garros and Wimbledon.
"I always find it unfair, but at least he gets rid of this
thought that's been in his head for too long.
"WADA wanted to impose itself to say we exist, so the principle
of objective responsibility was reaffirmed, but I've always said
that Sinner had nothing to do with it".
