Harry's Bar has playfully 'banned'
children under the age of 11 from using phones in its iconic
Venice restaurant.
"The use of cellphones and tablets at an age lower than 11 has
unpredictable effects on the digestion of our first courses,"
reads a semi-facetious warning on the menu drawn up by historic
owner Arrigo Cipriani.
Cipriani stressed that he was not actually banning anything,
saying "I'm a free man, I enjoyed the (Allied) Liberation of
Venice and far from me to impose anything on my clients, I've
never done so. I do try, though, to use humour".
When cellphones first started becoming the rage years ago,
Harry's Bar put up a notice saying their use "interferes with
the preparation of our risotto".
Harry's Bar, which is 93 years old, is one of Venice's biggest
tourist gastronomic draws.
