A report presented to parliament on
Tuesday said that 15.27% of Italy's taxpayers, the 6.4 million
people who declared annual earnings of 35,000 euros or more,
paid 63.4% of all the income tax to go into the State coffers in
2022.
It said the 40.35% of taxpayers, just under 17 million people,
who declared earnings of 15,000 or less contributed 1.29% of
total income tax.
The report said 75.80% of taxpayers declared incomes of up to
29,000 euros, paying only 24.43% of all income tax, adding that
this was not enough to cover the nation's healthcare spending.
