Tim Burton's sequel to his 1988
horror comedy cult classic Beetlejuice got the 81st Venice Film
Festival off with a bang Wednesday night.
Beetlejuice Beetlejuice, a hallucinatory work full of ghosts,
goblins, and micro-monsters on bicycles. in which Michael Keaton
reprises his titular role, Burton's partner Monica Bellucci gets
carved up and Jenny 'Wednesday Addams' Ortega and Willem Defoe
also feature, was greeted with wild applause as it showed out of
competition.
The reboot, however, got mixed reviews with the BBC saying "it
surpasses the original" but the Guardian saying "its is full of
gaudy set prices but fails to live up to the original".
Also on Wednesday night, Alien, Ghostbusters and Avatar star
Sigourney Weaver got a career Golden Lion as she starred in an
evening dedicated to women,, saying "I adore Italian cinema, I
would like a part in an Italian film".
