Sarah Eti Castellani is the new Italian Ambassador to Sarajevo. Born in Milan in 1975, she graduated in Political Science from Milan State University in 2001. Following a competitive examination, she was appointed probationary legationary secretary in the diplomatic career on 23 December 2002.
After her first assignments at the Analysis and Planning Unit of the General Secretariat and at the General Directorate for Asia, Oceania, Pacific and Antarctica of the Ministry, in 2007 she was assigned, as first secretary, to the Italian Embassy in New Delhi. In 2010, she took up the position of Consul at the Consulate General of Italy in London. In 2015, she returned to Rome and worked at the Directorate-General for Administration, Information Technology and Communications at the Farnesina. In 2021 she became first counsellor at the embassy in Tel Aviv. In 2018, she was appointed Knight of the Order of Merit of the Italian Republic.
"I am proud and enthusiastic to take up this position," the ambassador wrote in a post, "with the commitment to strengthen bilateral relations, support Bosnia and Herzegovina's European journey and its stabilisation path.
