The ceremony of handing over the "Torch of Hope" to the Organising Committee of the Special Olympics Turin 2025 Winter World Games took place at the Italian Ambassador's Residence in Athens. The event was attended by the President of the Piedmont Region Alberto Cirio, the Mayor of Turin Stefano Lo Russo and the President of the Organising Committee Patrizia Sandretto Re Rebaudengo, accompanied by some 180 Italian, Greek and international delegates.
The torch, which was lit in a solemn ceremony held in the morning at the monumental 'Zappeion' complex in the centre of Athens, as per tradition was accompanied by torchbearers to various points in the Greek capital, to end its journey at the Italian diplomatic headquarters, where it was handed over in the hands of Ambassador Paolo Cuculi. The delegation then stopped at the Italian Archaeological School in Athens before returning to Italy with the torch, ahead of the opening ceremony of the Games scheduled for 8 March in Turin.
