Maria Rosaria Boccia, the woman at
the centre of a scandal that led Gennaro Sangiuliano to quit as
culture minister in September, is under investigation for
alleged fraud in Pisa, the Tuscan city's chief prosecutor Teresa
Angela Camelio said on Monday, confirming press reports.
The prosecutor said the case regarded a 2021 business project
related to a property.
Boccia is a fashion businesswoman and influencer who was a
would-be advisor to Sangiuliano.
He resigned after admitting to having an affair with her, amid
claims, which he denied, that she was granted access to
sensitive information and that her expenses for trips were paid
for with public money.
Boccia is under investigation in Rome for "threatening a
political body of the state and aggravated injuries", after
Sangiuliano filed a complaint against her.
Police have found a pair of smart glasses that the influencer,
by her own admission, had previously used to make videos inside
parliament - an activity that cost her a ban from entering Roman
public offices.
