Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan
had a telephone conversation with Pope Francis to discuss the
opening ceremony of the 2024 Paris Olympics and the situation in
the Middle East, the Anadolu Agency reported on Thursday.
Erdogan lamented the "immoral exhibitions" of the ceremony,
which featured what appeared to be a recreation of the Last
Supper with drag queens, saying it aroused "indignation".
He also commented on the assassination of Hamas's political
leader Ismail Haniyeh and on Israel's attacks on targets in
Lebanon.
He said these showed that Israel "poses a threat to the entire
region, the world and humanity," the agency reported.
