Intervention by Italian Carabinieri
has been requested by the United States in Gaza, Defence
Minister Guido Crosetto said Friday.
"Today in Gaza, our intervention by the Italian Carabinieri is
requested", Crosetto said in a speech at the ceremony for the
changeover of the new Chief of Defense Staff, at the military
airport of Ciampino in Rome.
Two days ago, in a parliamentary defense committee, Crocetto had
also reported the request by the United States to send 200
Carabinieri to Jericho, in the West Bank, to train the
Palestinian police force.
The request for the Carabinieri in Gaza "was made directly to us
by (Antony) Blinken (US Secretary of State - ed.)," Crosetto
said.
"In the meantime we have to verify the security conditions, the
feasibility and everything else.
"Then we will decide".
