The European Commission has said it
will organize an annual food dialogue process with food-system
stakeholders "to address urgent issues such as food
reformulation, data collection on food intake," diets, and
"economic accessibility."
The announcement comes as the EU executive publishes its EU
Vision for Agriculture, a strategic document that will also
guide work on the future Common Agricultural Policy (CAP)
post-2027.
To support this dialogue, Brussels will launch a study on the
impact of consuming so-called ultra-processed foods.
In an effort to strengthen the link between "food, territory,
and culture," the EU executive will present a legislative
proposal in the coming months on the role of public procurement.
This will follow a "best value for money" approach to reward
farmers' efforts in quality and sustainability while promoting
the consumption of local and seasonal products, as well as food
produced under high environmental and social standards—including
organic products and items from shorter supply chains.
