In 2024, 13.5% of EU companies with 10 or more employees used artificial intelligence technologies for their business, an increase of 5.5 percentage points compared to 2023.
    Denmark (27.6%), Sweden (25.1%) and Belgium (24.7%) are the countries with the highest percentages of companies with 10 or more employees that use AI technologies.
    At the bottom of the list are Romania (3.1%), Poland (5.9%) and Bulgaria (6.5%).
    Italy registers 8.2%, up three percentage points compared to the 5.05% recorded in 2023.
    The data were released by Eurostat.
    All EU countries recorded an increase in the share of enterprises using AI technologies compared to 2023, with Sweden recording the highest increase (14.7%), followed by Denmark (+12.4%) and Belgium (+10.9%).
    In contrast, modest increases were recorded in Portugal (+0.8%), Romania (+1.6%) and Spain (+2.1%).
    Information and communication is the sector where AI was used the most in 2024 (48.72% of enterprises), followed by the professional, scientific and technical services sector (with 30.53%).
    In all other economic activities, the share of enterprises adopting AI is below 16%.
    The percentage ranges from 15.45% (real estate activities) to 6.09% (housing and construction).
    In terms of the type of AI technology used by businesses, in 2024, written language analysis (text mining) was the most widely used, adopted by 6.9% of businesses.
    The second most widely used AI technology was the generation of written or spoken language (natural language generation), used by 5.4% of businesses (+3.3% compared to 2023).
    This was followed by the conversion of spoken language into machine-readable format (voice recognition), used by 4.8% of businesses (+2.2%).
