A merger between Italian oilfield engineering giant Saipem and Norwegian undersea engineering multinational Subsea 7 shows the solidity of the 'Italian System' and has created the world's leading energy engineering company, Premier Giorgia Meloni said after the deal was announced Tuesday.
"I welcome with great satisfaction the news of the merger agreement between the Italian Saipem and the Norwegian Subsea 7, an extremely significant operation that will allow the creation of the first global company in the energy engineering sector", she said in a statement.
"The future group will be based in Italy and will pool the strengths that already characterize Saipem and Subsea 7, two highly complementary entities in terms of geographical presence, skills, capacity, naval fleets and technology.
"This agreement represents further evidence of the solidity and vitality of the Italian System and of the economic, productive and industrial excellence that are part of it".
